Ingesting….think before you eat!
This blog was originally about nonsense that I read or saw in movies and turned out to become a plea for thinking about what we eat and what is needed in life.
I am not vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, fruitarian or any other items and I respect what people eat and don’t eat to a certain degree.
French people still eat horse, and rabbit used to be one of my favourite meat growing up but then when I had my first rabbit I stop eating rabbit.
I could not eat dogs or cats and how we treat the animals before they are becoming meat should be reviewed so that respect is done to the end.
But I just wanted to bring some attention to some items that humans eat and can be harmful and there are lots of non sense in life.
Shark fin soup
This is a topic that upsets me personally as I always loved sharks and especially the Great white.
I was fortunate to see him in person not long ago in Australia but the sad point is that we were lucky to see them.
There are only about 3500 Great whites left in the world and the issue is mostly coming from shark fin industry.
There are about 70 to 100 million sharks being killed per year for shark fin soup and the species does not matter.
It is actually barbaric process as the fin is cut and the shark put back in the ocean to drown.
What a waste for all. Sharks have a very important role in the seas and ignoring it is pushing more to human extinction.
Anyhow, the original started in Chine during the Ming area where it was hard to find a shark so the process was not as destructive.
Also this was reserved for the Emperor suggesting that eating Shark would make you stronger.
Unfortunately this practice has become more common causing the issue mentioned.
China has now reduced their intake of shark soup but other Asian area have picked up the habit.
OK I have to admit I started with a pretty non funny item but it is because it is close to my hart.
So think before eating Shark fin when you visit Thailand or Vietnam or Singapore to name a few countries where is practice is common.
By the way, in case you wonder, a new study has proven that actually eating shark is dangerous for the human and can cause poison as the meat is high in mercury.
Rhino horns
Once again I am going on heavy as once again I was lucky to see white and grey Rhino in person and in the wild.
They are just amazing and I did fall in love with them.
I was heartbroken when I read an article that one of the species is now technically extend even though 2 females remain due to the last male being dying.
Again it is a myth that eating rhino horn extract can help with your manhood, you know what just use Viagra that is what it it for.
The horn of the rhino is actually just Keratin which is also find in human hair and nails.
So even though I discourage people to bite their nails in this instance go right ahead and take your nails down to the root.
I am not against cultural heritage but there need to be some common sense and evolution as well if it puts population in danger.
People need to think better and realise what they are doing.
Most rhinos now get their horn cut off to protect them, taking part of their identity and way of living.
A horn price is ridiculous from $400.00 to $400.000 per kilo depending on the type which only prove the greed of the individual organising those killing and most of the time the person actually getting the job done is only paid a tiny amount.
Human greed makes me sick to be honest, here I said it.
Grow up humanity and see what you are doing to those beautiful animals for a past believe which has no reason to exist anymore.
Cannibalism…..makes you stronger or vegetables makes you better….
Now we are moving into movies plot. I saw that moving years ago which was actually really good.
Ravenous from 1999, the idea was that when a man eats a human he gets the strength of that human.
The myth behind this movie is the mythical creature called the Wendigo.
There are different theories behind the myth between evil spirit, or becoming a Wendigo if you eat another human.
But in this movie, the main character played by Robert Carlyle believes and proves that by eating a person you take his strength.
To go back to the items mentioned earlier, a lots of the myth comes from appropriation of being that we eat.
Eating shark makes you stronger, eating rhino makes you more of a man.
Eating carrots give you good eyesight….this believe started during World war II - Rabbits have good eye sight because they eat carrots….we can blame Peter Rabbit on this one belief but also there was too much carrot in the UK and a propaganda campaign to eat more carrots was raised saying that by eating carrots your night eye sight would be better helping during the bombing black outs.
But in fairness eating carrot is not harmful as long as you do not eat too much of it as abusing even good things can bring issues - you skin can turn more yellow/orange and give some digestive issues. But you need to eat a lot.
Eat your soup to grow taller, I ate a lot of soup and never got tall….that is a lie. But again this is a harmless lie.
There are no harm to promote eating vegetables, children can be fussy eaters and having a mixed vegetables soup allows to have a lot of good items at once. And when you have small children telling them that eating your soup will make you taller definitely can help with the process.
Next “an apple a day keeps the doctor at bay” there is no hard in having an apple a day but there is no bearing behind that saying, it came from a Welsh saying from 19th century and the original saying was “Eat an apple before going to bed, you will stop the doctor earning its bread” and it evolves to our phrase that we use all the time.
Beauty in the food….
We cannot avoid the most famous Empress of all time - Cleopatra was known for her beauty and also known for taking bath in Donkey’s sour milk. OK not sure about the smell and not sure I would lie in that…but anyway this is a myth.
Was it true or not we might never know, but there are truth in the myth.
Lots of modern products use milk - the lactic acid in sour milk has beneficial effects on the skin such as exfoliation, moisturization, and antioxidative properties.
You do use milk daily on your skin.
Cucumber slice on your face and yours eyes, the cooling effect help with puffiness and hydration of the skin making it look brighter.
I could not find the exact reason why, but it seems that India and China over 3000 years ago started growing Cucumber, additionally to be eaten it was used to treat burn and I guess from there the hydration provided was extended to beauty treatment.
Now I feel I might have open a can of worm on this one, because I can then talk about avocado again to help with skin mosturising.
Now, what is frustrating is that I can see how and why to use avocado base products, oil and so on but not where that came from.
So I think I will quit on this topic and until next time have a good day.
